Help me celebrate a “labor of love” this Labor Day!

Let’s celebrate a “labor of love” this Labor Day!

Last year, over 64 million people in the U.S. volunteered their time at least once. That’s amazing.  It’s inspiring to see an increase in volunteering when so many people are struggling to make ends meet.  This kind of selfless giving is something truly worth celebrating.

And what about team members of the million+ nonprofit organizations and numerous other social good organizations? Many of these folks work for far less money than they could earn elsewhere – because they are more concerned about making a difference than making more money.

So, this Labor Day, let’s celebrate the labor of love that is playing out in the lives of volunteers and team members of nonprofits and other social good organizations throughout the world.  Willing to join me?  Great!  Here are some ideas:

  • send a note to someone you know who volunteers their time.  Tell them how much you appreciate what they do for others;
  • take a few minutes today to promote at least one organization that you feel is making a meaningful difference in the world – and let the (Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, Twitter…) world know why you chose them;
  • reach out to the leader of a nonprofit you admire – let them know how you feel about their work and their contribution to society.
  • join the labor of love by taking on a new volunteer opportunity.

There are a number of great resources for finding nonprofits and volunteer opportunities on Philanthropegie.

Happy Labor Day!
